Horst Kuhnert è nato nel 1939 a Schweidnitz in Germania e nel 1962 si diploma presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti con il Professor Heinrich Wildemann.
Il 1963 è un anno cruciale durante il quale Kuhnert sposta il suo interesse dalla pittura astratta alla scultura ed inizia ad utilizzare l’alabastro come medium.
Nel 1964 inizia la realizzazione dei bassorilievi Raumflächen e delle sculture Raumkörper, entrambi attraverso l’utilizzo del poliestere.
Horst Kuhnert, membro della German Association of Artists e della Artists Association of Baden-Wurttemberg, vive e lavora a Stoccarda.
