Shozo Shimamoto is co-founder, along with Jiro Yoshisara of the Gutai movement, Association of Art Concrete, founded in 1954 with the intention to renew the Japanese artistic tradition (especially Zen culture) and to accept and overcome, through a research of more identity, the innovation incentives from the West.
Gutai indeed means “concrete”: sign that wants to be in opposition to abstraction, intended as the mental approach to the work and move towards a direct link to the artist and the quality of the material.
On show the series of the Monotype created between Japan and his permanence in Italy.
