Shozo Shimamoto Abstract / Summa exhibition can be considered as the second part of a review of the artist that Kanalidarte began with its previous show, Shozo Shimamoto - Late works featuring the artist's Monotypes.
On show nine selected works spanning almost fifty years of artistic production, an abstract that aims to show the extensive research carried out by Shozo Shimamoto, co- founder of the Gutai group in 1954 who was chosen in 1998 as one of the four greatest artists of the post-war period together with Jackson Pollock, John Cage and Lucio Fontana.
Invited to four editions of the Venice Biennale (1993, 1999, 2003 e 2007), Shozo Shimamoto stands as an ideal bridge between Western and Japanese art, closely linked to the tradition of zen calligraphy and focusing on an artistic expression that includes expressive forms as performances and happenings, a painting-action that no longer envisages the use of the brush a creative tool but rather replaces it with any instrument deemed capable of enhancing the quality of the colour.
