Luis Tomasello was born on November 29, 1915 in La Plata, Argentina, by Italian parents. His artistic training, which began in the schools of Buenos Aires and the initial figurative impression of vague Cézannian inspiration, received a decisive impetus by coming into contact with the new European artistic expressions discovered in Paris in 1951 on a trip to Europe.
Back in Argentina, he attended avant-garde artists such as Emilio Pettoruti and Carmelo Arden Quin. With him he founded the "Salon Arte Nuevo" in Buenos Aires. The works of this period are affected by Cubism and Expressionism, then turning to Geometric Attraction.
In 1957 Tomasello settled in Paris, joining a group of artists such as Arp, Seuphor, Vasarely, Soto, Schöffer. He look at Mondrian and Malevi? as a master and start his research in the field of two-dimensional kinetic art. His work therefore evolves in the realization of the tiges (regular polyhedrons applied on the surface of the picture) and in the intensification of the study of light and tridimensionality.
The first solo shows are in 1962, at the Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and at the historic Galerie Denise René in Paris (an international point of reference for the dissemination of cinematic and constructed art), through which he joined the artistic researches developed by artists such as Demarco, Cruz Diez, Le Parc, Tinguely.
There is a long list of exhibitions all over the world, with important awards and international awards: the 1970s was awarded the 1st Grand Prix International at the "II Bienal de Arte Coltejer" in Medellín, Colombia; in 1971 he won the 2nd Prix International at the "VII Biennale d'Art", Menton; in 1976 he was the Chevalier des art et des lettres in Paris; in 1998 he won the Prix de l'Artiste de l'année, Provincial Museum of Bellas Artes Emilio Pettoruti, Buenos Aires and is in 2008 the Grand Prix Homage of the Central Bank of the Republic Argentina, Buenos Aires.
He is author, along with the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar, of two books-objects, composed of silkscreen and poetic texts.
He has achieved significant architectural integration in different countries (realization of the environment of the Conference Room_ Palace of Congresses de la Porte Maillot, Paris, realization of the room of the Conferences Room of the Company Renault, Boulogne-Billancurt, Cromoplastic Atmosphere of m 2.20x4.40 For the town hall of Askin, Norway; realization of the animation of two walls_Gendarmerie of Grenoble, France; realization of the environment of the Great Reception Hall of the Embassy of France in Rabat, Morocco).
His works are part of public and private collections around the world (Musée National d'Art Moderne, Center Georges Pompidou, Paris, Paris Museum of Contemporary Art, Center of Contemporary Art in Paris, Museum Ritter, Waldenbuch, Germany, Satoru Sato Art Museum, Tome City Nakada Community Education Center, Japan, National Museum of Fine Arts Reina Sofía, Madrid, Spain, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Texas, USA, New York University, New York, USA; Museo de Arte Moderno - Fondazione Jesus- Raphael Soto, Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela.)
